Rid Your Home of Asbestos
September 27th, 2008 Categories: Preferred Business, Real Estate
Asbestos is found in many area homes and some homeowners may not even know that they are living with it. Is it “dangerous”? The quick answer is that it depends on if it is being disturbed, or if it is intact.
Asbestos is classified as a “special waste” under MassDEP regulations. It requires special handling and transporting. Disposal can only be done in asbestos approved landfills.
What is Asbestos? It is a “naturally occuring, mostly fibrous material and may consist of any one of a number of silicates.” as stated by the MassDEP (whatever that means!) The physical properties make it resistant to heat, fire and many caustic chemicals. Since it also is a great insulator, it can be found many times as heating pipe and boiler insulation.
Why you need to get rid of it? Asbestos is known to cause lung cancer and a disease of the lungs called asbestosis. Many times it takes decades to see these resulting diseases show up.
From a Realtor perspective, removing the asbestos material (correctly) will cause nervous buyers from running for the hills when they discover you have it. Anytime buyers hear about a hazard or health concern, it is not good for your home’s value.
How do we have to removed? The best option is by finding a certified removal company. These companies are listed at this link: List of Asbestos Removal Companies

Important Info on Local Hospitals: Customer Satisfaction
May 10th, 2008 Categories: Framingham, Marlborough, Milford, Natick, Preferred Business
The Metrowest Boston towns are just a short drive to some of the most highly regarded hospitals in the country. I don’t think I have ever heard of Massachusetts residents complaining about the level of care that is available nearby.
There is a survey that I discovered that does highlight some customer satisfaction numbers you may find interesting.
Surveys are interesting subjects because there always seems to be a motivation behind them. This survey was conducted by The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS). This government body seems to give hospitals a tool to get better at their care, but more importantly, it gives the consumer a way to compare hospital care.

Pick up the phone and dial your trusted insurance agent to take good care of you. That was easy, wasn’t it! Will this save you every last nickel? No, but it will be competitive and you will get coverage that your personal situation requires.
Notice how I stated “trusted” insurance agent. If you do not have someone you can turn to when your home is on fire or you have just had a traffic accident, Read the rest of this entry »

Research regarding saving for my almost 4 year old daughter’s education can be classified as slim to none. Ashamed to say it, but I pledge to catch up!
What drove the new interest is a good article from Money Magazine about Utah’s topnotch 529.
My daughter, Lara, will thank me in 14 years if I make a move now.
Using all my knowledge from my Finance degree from Bryant College, as well as years of reading about personal finance,
I have been enlightened with one main rule of thumb.
